For a music video creator and a multidisciplinary artist Vashtie, who today shared new photos of her wedding to designer Emil Boye, the original plan was to have a “big party wedding” this year. However, as Vashtie explained in a statement to the Complex, the pandemic ultimately inspired a different approach to mark their union.
“In 2019, I got engaged and I planned to organize a big festive wedding in 2020,” said Vashtie. “COVID-19 had other plans, so we postponed the celebration and decided in March to secretly marry town hall.”
For their attire, Vashtie said, she and Emil chose to “honor tradition” with a personalized approach to the traditional aesthetics of marriage.
“To honor the tradition, I wore white, but to be true to myself, I put on a set consisting of a white Supreme Hanes T-shirt, white Dickies, white Air Force 1 socks and a custom Durag veil from Evita Loca, “said Vashtie. . “My current husband has stayed true to his Danish style by wearing a minimalist look from all Black and Retro Mid Jordan 1s.”
At first, Vashtie did not want to share photos of such a personal moment. In the end, however, she was influenced by the realization that it might encourage some others who must change their own plans during the COVID-19 era.
“I debated the possibility of sharing this personal moment, but I realized that perhaps it could inspire other people in these changing times,” said Vashtie. “Even if at this moment seems uncertain, the truth is at all times. The plans are derailed and the future is still unknown, but we can still enjoy the life we have and make the most of it.”
